Still here...sorta

I'm here! I've been recording my food and whatnot, I just know I would be lying to myself if I thought I'd be able to keep this up everyday right now while everything is in overdrive.

I know I'm not alone in the busyness of the holiday and trying to squeeze in so much. I am behind on emails, phone calls, projects, gift making and wrapping-but I will get caught up!

Tonight I'm working on some top-secret christmas presents and will pretty much not be doing anything else this weekend if it doesn't involve baking and present making. I made some reindeer food tonight, erg, that stuff is addictive. I'm thinking about stashing my baking stuff at my sister in-laws house because we are just no good when it comes to not eating sweets.

How are you guys doing with the baking and eating of holiday foods? Its pretty much a given that I will enjoy a few of my holiday favorites, but I'd rather avoid the gorge and then get sick ritual that I'm known to go through.

The first Christmas after I moved to nyc, I came home to WV and practically ran to Wendy's and ate a giant hamburger+fries and some cheesecake and god knows what else. Needless to say I was so sick that I couldn't even leave the house for the weekend. Nice. I know.

Must exercise this week. That is what I'm focusing on right now.

Oh, I'm dreading the baking too. It's such a shame. I love to bake, but I love to try too. I'm hoping that I'll exercise enough just to balance out. If I finish the Christmas holiday at the same weight I'm at now - it will be acceptable. Happy Baking & present making!

I am totally with you in the craziness of the holidays! It is VERY easy to let things slip that you know you shouldn't. My focus is on working out as well because I honestly have no will power what so ever when it comes to the yummy sweets of the holidays, so no, you are not alone! We are all with ya girl. Even if you do a few small things to stay healthier through the holidays, it is still better than doing nothing. Good Luck!

I haven't caught the spirit yet this year . . . though after following your link to the Reindeer Food I just may. That looks yummy. Eat an extra bite for me.

I've done really well up until today. Today is baking day in our house, and I just have trouble with cookie dough.

So, I will let myself nibble today, then Monday and Tuesday I have written out a food menu to stick to. Knowing that I can have some cookies again on Xmas eve will help me stay out of them Monday and Tuesday! (I hope)

I don't bake anything for the holidays...this helps! If I smell it baking, I would eat it, alot of it.

Exercise is the perfect thing to focus on getting everyday this week, that way you can still indulge in some of your favorite holiday foods without doing to much damage, I did that for thanksgiving and it worked!!

I actually did a lot of baking recently and one thing that helped me is the fact that what I make now is much better for you. Whatever recipe I make I try to look around for alternative recipes that are lower in fat or find ways to replace the butter, sugar (if needed), or oil.

I like to make the quick breads (banana, pumpkin, zucchini) but the trick is seeing if my husband will eat it and not know its healthy. I've used recipes that have gotten rave reviews by non-family with them none the wiser.

If you do make something, one thing thats worked for me over the years is portioning it out to single portions, in baggies or whatnot. Then you know thats all you need. Or if your making quick breads or cake, make cupcakes or muffins, instant portion control. There are ways to bake and enjoy the holiday without ruining your eating plan.

Sorry this is a late comment. The hardest for me is the workplace. I work in a recovery room at a major hospital. Every surgical service gives us treats. I found the best thing to do is stay somewhat full on better foods. Less likely to cheat.

At least you're exercising though! That's great. I totally slacked.

However, tomorrow I am going to freeze the remaining Christmas cookies for my kids, and throw out the fudge. I am sick of it anyway.

I actually think I am craving a vegetable.

Hmmm. The question is whether you bake for the joy of baking or just for the joy of tasting. I like both. But what I've done lately is bake for others.

So I'll bake say 18 cookies for a relative and I might make 19. The extra ONE is for me. It is really an act of will power but to me that one cookie is so delicious. I'm on weight watchers so depending on my points I might save a little room for two or three small sweets : )

I hear you! Yes, it's OK now and then to indulge in a little comfort food like Wendy's, and it feels SO good when your blood sugar is low, doesn't it?

And I've got to hand it to you, you're on the right track with knowing you need to exercise.

Knowing the problem is half the solution, as they say!

So I support and encourage you to get on out there, even if it's just for a 15-minute walk. Hey, it's better than nothing, it burns calories, and it gets you back in the fitness habit!

More power to you,
Tam Thompson

my understanding has always been that it is healthier to give yourself a little of what you want rather than deny yourself all of your favorites. it keeps you from gorging... right??

Hello There,

I agreed with the above post that is what Christmas is all about fun, greeting and delicious food. Should be restrict ourselve on these days as well? I think probably not however we can also incorporate daily long walk to compensate the effect of delicious food on Christmas.

Hi, I've just been looking through your blog, and I really like some of your posts, especially the grooming one which I am totally guilty of myself :)

I wish you would set your feed to deliver the full text of the post though, I hate having to go out of my reader to check out the rest pf the entry. Lazy I know, but when you're slacking off at work you have to read through pretty quickly before someone notices you're slacking!!
